"Buddy taping" makes it difficult to type with any speed, but I'm managing. I briefly tried Facebook and gave it up again about a month ago. With luck my finger will heal during the next month if I treat it right and stay off the keyboard more. It says: rgyud pa dang po zhi byed sgron ma'i skor bya ba / kha che dznya na pan 'gri ta la rgya gar du gsungs pa lags skad //

To roughly translate: The First Transmission called the Zhijé Lamp Cycle, was taught in India to the Kashmiri Jñâna Pandita."

The longer name of the Kashmiri is Jñânaguhya. He was student of Padampa already when Padampa first went to Tibet, He together with a Tibetan Lotsawa translated about eleven of Padampa's works that are included in the Tibetan Tanjur. I imagine they did this work inside Tibet, even if I don't find any clear statement. But the later sources agree with the earlier one just translated that the First Transmission happened in India. During his first sojourn, Padampa taught a "few precepts" to a couple of Tibetans, but no real lineage transmission (on this, too, the sources agree).

Thanks for the question. I've been working my way back slowly toward the First Transmission accounts. Some day I hope to find out more about the texts of the Zhijé Lamp Cycle, since there is confusion in the sources whether there ought to be 3 or 9 or both. There *is* a set of 9 Lamp texts in the Tanjur translated by Jñânaguhya.

There was some kind of continuation of the First Transmission all the way down to the Rog brothers in early 13th century, at least, although this is another obscure matter that requires investigation. You can hold your breath, or breathe, but either way you might have to wait awhile before that happens.

Yours,
DDanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10453904366382251766noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32671574.post-5802027223418771692016-07-04T14:56:58.614+03:002016-07-04T14:56:58.614+03:00On what basis do you conclude that the First Trans...On what basis do you conclude that the First Transmission occurred in India?Short Personnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32671574.post-80350858689398237002016-07-03T11:43:03.071+03:002016-07-03T11:43:03.071+03:00He was the lone contemplative that the community f...He was the lone contemplative that the community formed around, but Yes, he was very much involved with them.
